At a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are simmering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has painted a bold new vision for the nation — a vision worth $100 billion.
Welcome to WAVES 2025.
Held from May 1 to 4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), WAVES 2025 was a grand success that united the world under one creative platform.
One of the standout initiatives of the event was the “Create in India Challenge,” which saw participation from over 100,000 individuals globally, out of which 800 finalists were shortlisted for the grand showcase.
The event featured some of the most powerful figures from across the globe — from India’s top political leadership to the biggest names in Bollywood and industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani were among the key dignitaries present.
But what is WAVES 2025 really about?
At its heart, WAVES is about celebrating and elevating India’s rich cultural legacy — especially its cinema and creative industries — and projecting them onto the global stage.
PM Modi launched this initiative to strengthen India’s position as a global content powerhouse. Bollywood, with its global appeal, is expected to play a major role — something strongly echoed by the presence of icons like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Karan Johar, and Aamir Khan in various panel discussions at the event.
Global Participation & Vision
Representatives from over 100 countries attended WAVES 2025, reinforcing India’s aim to position itself as a hub of creative excellence. Their role in shaping the global creative economy through partnerships with India was a key highlight of the summit.
The event also embraced the future — Artificial Intelligence and Gaming were featured as core components, symbolizing India’s shift toward modern, tech-driven storytelling.
Economic Impact & Orange Economy
The most significant takeaway? Economic transformation. Mukesh Ambani projected that India’s media and entertainment industry will jump from $28 billion to $100 billion in the coming decade.
PM Modi also introduced the concept of the “Orange Economy,” where content, creativity, and culture become central pillars of economic growth.
One of the most ambitious elements was the WAVES Bazaar, where 6,100 buyers and 5,200 sellers came together to promote Indian content globally — a massive step in taking “Make in India” to “Create for the World.”
